Putin to Visit India by End of 2025 Amidst Trump’s Tariff Hike on India

Russian President Vladimir Putin is set to visit India by the end of 2025, marking his first trip to the country since December 2021. The visit, confirmed by India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval during his recent trip to Moscow, comes at a critical juncture in global politics and trade relations.

While the exact dates are still under discussion, the meeting is expected to focus on strengthening the long-standing strategic partnership between the two nations. India and Russia share decades of defense, energy, and economic cooperation, and both sides are likely to use this high-level visit to reaffirm commitments in these areas.

The announcement comes against the backdrop of heightened trade tensions between India and the United States. Recently, U.S. President Donald Trump imposed steep tariffs on Indian goods, citing India’s continued purchase of Russian oil despite Western sanctions. Analysts believe Putin’s visit will serve as both a diplomatic signal and an economic strategy move, reaffirming Moscow and New Delhi’s intent to maintain strong bilateral relations irrespective of Western pressure.

For India, the visit is expected to bring discussions on energy security, defense collaboration, and new trade agreements, particularly in light of shifting global alliances. For Russia, the trip offers an opportunity to deepen its footprint in Asia as it navigates Western sanctions over the Ukraine conflict.
